Our Story

Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt is a special seasoning blend, which was developed in New Zealand over 40 years ago by an American chemist. Heather and Teresa who are sisters purchased the recipe and business in 2006 from Michelle who owned the Warkworth Health shop for many years. Michelle continued making the salt after she sold the shop and supplied other health shops in New Zealand. A loyal following of customers grew!
Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt is now made in small batches by Heather and Teresa with the same beloved and trusted recipe that was developed all those years ago.
The sisters grew up on a rural property in Tauranga (what would be called a lifestyle block today) during the 50-60’s, with an abundance of orchards and fruit. The family were vegetarians eating a plant-based, clean diet … long before it became popular. Their mother adopted a holistic approach to food, health and lifestyle passing this on to her 6 children. Nutritional yeast was part of their diet way back when they were children.
Now their families are passionate home cooks who use Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt daily and can attest that the mix enhances a wide range of recipes, from roasts and stews through to stir fries and dressings.
Heather’s favourite way to use Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt is on fish panfried in butter, sprinkled liberally and doused in lemon juice. Teresa loves it on poached eggs and avocado with toasted sourdough.

About Yeast and Salt
WHAT IS YEAST?
Nutritional yeast is a highly nutritious vegan product with well-documented health benefits. It is a complete protein meaning that among the 18 amino acids it contains, 9 are essential ones that your body cannot produce. It also contains vitamins (in particular B complex vitamins), folates, thiamine (used in every cell in the body), riboflavin, niacin, selenium and zinc – making it a SUPER food. Nutritional yeast is antiviral, antibacterial and an immune booster.
WHAT IS SALT?
Salt has been around for millennia and is an essential part of the human diet. It helps maintain hydration and keeps our bodies chemically balanced. Salt is mainly composed of sodium, which also plays a role in keeping control of blood pressure. We excrete sodium when sweating and must replenish the lost sodium and chloride ions through diet. However, most people consume too much salt and so by using Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt you will reduce your salt intake without compromising on flavour.
OTHER INGREDIENTS
Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt also contains the herbs basil, thyme, oregano and sage along with the spices curry powder, cumin and pepper. It contains powdered garlic, onion and celery.
Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt is naturally gluten- and diary-free.

Roast Vegetables
Use Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt instead of salt on roast vegetables.
Mashed Potato
Add Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt along with the butter and milk when mashing potatoes. It is the only seasoning you will need.
Baked Potato
Use Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt on a baked potato spread with lashings of sour cream or butter.
Boiled Eggs
Use Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt on boiled eggs. Keep a pottle in your desk at work to season a quick and healthy snack.

Roast pieces of trimmed kale in a hot oven with olive oil until crispy. Season with Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt.

Avocado, avocado and more avocado
Avocado absolutely loves Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt. Use it to season any avocado dish from guac, smashed avocado, avocado salad……

Tomatoes
Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt takes tomatoes to another level. Sprinkle on sliced tomatoes on Vogel’s toast, slow roast tomatoes before roasting or add to tomato pasta sauce.

Corn on the Cob
Use Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt on fresh corn cobs in the summer. Our favourite way to cook the corn is in the husk on the BBQ. It steams the corn making it sweet and delicious!
Stews and Soups
Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt adds an intense savoury flavour to stews and soups. It can replace some of the stock – and is much better for you than a salty stock cube!
Green Vegetables
Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt adds a new dimension to sautéed, boiled or steamed green vegetables. Absolutely delicious with char grilled asparagus with lemon and extra virgin olive oil.
Herb and Lemon Fish
Panfry white fish fillets in a generous amount of butter. Add Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt, loads of lemon juice and some chopped fresh parsley. Tastier and healthier than crumbed or deep fried fish!
Salty popcorn
Season freshly popped, warm popcorn with Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt – a tasty and healthy option!
EGG AND SPROUT TEA SANDWICHES
Boil 1 large egg for each piece of sliced sandwich bread. Mash the egg and mix with a good quality mayo and Magic Gardens Herb Yeast Salt. Spread the egg mix onto a slice of sandwich bread. Top with alfalfa or sango sprouts. Spread mayo on another slice on bread and put on top of the sprouts to make the sandwich. Cut off crusts and cut into four triangles. Serve as part of a morning, afternoon or high tea.
